Justin's
Gazelle, in an amazingly vibrant and deep color, is a factory
executed repaint of a late seventies AA-Frame.
An update which probably included additional braze-on's too.
It measures 54.5x54.5 center to center.
1979 Champion Mondial AA-Frame Owned by Justin Riley
The serial number
indicates 1978, but the frame is brazed with Campagnolo's Portacatena
rear drop-outs, which was introduced in 1979. This is not too unusual.
We have heard from several sources that Gazelle batch stamped bottom
bracket shells in advance, and the workers simply got one from the
stack when needed. If for some reason demand went down, shells would
sit for the next season, or get mixed with new ones. Thus, serial
numbers can be a year or more off the actual production time.
