Oldest Gazelle on this site. Remarkably good shape, with fully chromed frame, red accents and gold lug lining.
Note old style Gazelle logo.

The claimed age of 1962 is in disagreement with the serial number starting with 2366, if one views it against the few other old frames we have found and against the following info:

Martin in Finland, who also own an old Gazelle, received an email from Gazelle saying "[we] started building race frames in 1967 or 1968."

Furthermore the history section on the Gazelle website states that "frame number 2000000 being built in 1966".

Still there are so many unique frame details on this one, that we hesitate dating it any newer than the other frames with allegedly earlier serial numbers. The decals are also different and appear older than this frame which is tentatively dated as 1968-69. Whether it is as early as 1962, or one of the first from 1966 is open to speculation. Out of sequence serial numbers were not uncommon among the newer frames.

Above: To this day the iconic Gazelle headbadge remain in use, unchanged.

Right: Braze-on's for rear brake cable under the top tube are the only fixed cable leads on this bicycle. Later on in the history of race frames these were briefly abandoned in favor of those little bolt-on clips. Why?

Note the little faint leaping Gazelle on the side of the fork blade.
