Iain Oughtred's Gannet For Sale

Scottish small craft sailor and designer Iain Oughtred is well known for his line of traditional skiffs, dinghies and beach cruisers, all adapted for modern glued lapstrake construction.

We have previously built his Wee Rob double paddle canoe, a very pretty little thing of a mere 30 lbs.

Now, after finishing the efficient, but less handsome Core Sound 17, we will devote our energies towards Oughtred's performance sailing skiff, the 14' 6" Gannet. This boat is a round bottomed center board sailing dinghy suitable for an afternoon outing for 3 or 4 people, or extended cruising in coastal waters with a crew of 1 or 2. Weight of the fully rigged boat should not exceed 300 lbs, and will require a light trailer for transport.

Construction is starting in September 2008, and updates will be posted as they become relevant.

The Gannet is for sale when completed, at a cost around $10000, and anybody interested are welcome to contact us at (509) 429 2196, or email. A 20% deposit will secure the boat.

The easily excited boatbuilders crowd over the blue prints for the 14' 6" Gannet, just arrived from Scotland.

Initial impression is good. Mr. Oughtred is a very skilled draftsman, creating plans that are concise, detailed and complete, yet easy to use.

The Gannet looks like it will be pretty and perform well. The rigging options are all interesting. We are leaning towards the jib headed gunter sloop, as seen below.
