Named
in honor of a notorious Edward
Abbey character, this little skiff is an old staple
here at Libby Small Craft. We built the
first one in 1995 and sailed it far and wide on
numerous long expeditions.
It is an adaptations of the 10' dory skiff in John
Gardner's indispensable Dory Book. We lofted it first
in the nineties and now, for this latest version, refaired
the lines and upgraded a few details.
It is being build solidly in anticipation of hard
use and dependability. The bottom is 12mm marine plywood,
transom 18mm and the planking 6mm. Bottom and garboards
have received a continuous layer of 6oz fiberglass cloth
for added strength and abrasion resistance.
The finished skiff will be for oar and sail, with the
option of putting a light motor on the transom. As usual
we will paint the exterior and oil the inside. For the
latter we are now using Tung Oil from here
Asking price is $6000, including sails, oars and a
trailer. The boat will be ready for a test sail here
in the mountains of Washington around May 2009.
