It looks and
feels like a floodplain. The mixed blessing of Outpost Camp,
Mt. Whitney Zone, east side of Mt. Whitney. It is also crowded,
noisy and shady. The last overnighters arrive late into the
evening, and the spearhead of the hundreds of day hikers vying
for the summit, start passing by at 3 AM. So that leaves a mere
4 hours of quiet sleep. But no matter, because we have all been
there, done that, after 8 days in backcountry.
If it wasn't for the that feeling of accomplishment, in addition
to the magnificent Foxtail Pines and the stunning view of Mt.
Thor's west face, this indeed would be a rotten camp.
